About

For four decades, TF Racing has been the local family owned industry leader in the motocross suspension business. In 1972, Tom Fleming saw the need for better ways to deal with the harsh Florida terrain. He rode a modified 175 Bultaco Pursang and other riders would see that his bike did not break " So they came to us for the same mods and of course everyone wanted more horsepower." Today, TF Racing Suspension continues to grow. Along with his wife Ellen, TF has become a legend on the Florida motocross circuit. His passion for the sport and dedication to his customers is second to none. "Racing is all about life and living, you make mistakes and life moves on. There is not one stand out rider, there are fast ones and there are slow ones, all bring adventure and excitement. There will be no other feeling than watching a start with a Pro-Rider riding at Mach 10 or the smile on the face of someone who just jumped their first double. Best advice I have received is to trust yourself and your training.You admire most of TF? I admire the fact that they will help anybody regardless of age, brand of bike or problem.When was your first race, where was it and how did it go? My first race was when I was 16. I raced Junior B on a bored out Honda CR85. I believe that I finished 9th out of 15 riders. I had a great time but realized how hard it is to race 2 hrs straight.What got you into the sport? My father was Motocross Champ for numerous years in Puerto Rico. We moved to Florida when I was 3 yrs old. While in Florida my dad realized that Hare Scrambles was a safer sport for me and so we were attached to the woods ever since.Favorite part of the sport? The family and friendly atmosphere Least favorite part of the sport? The driving to and from the races.If you weren't racing on the weekends you would be ___mountain biking__________?One goal you would love to accomplish on the track and off the track? I would love to win my 1st AA race!! My biggest goal off the track would be to be the best Dad and husband I can be.Biggest influence? My biggest influence has to be my parents and parents in law. They have been a huge part of my life and continue to be my inspirations.Favorite MX rider? Favorite MX rider is a tie between Chad Reed and Ryan Dungey. Favorite off road rider is Shane Watts.Favorite track? Gatorback.Your best race ever was_____Gatorback of the 2010-2011 season was my best race. I led the for a while before getting passed by Kyle Parsons on the SX track. Although I didn't win it was my best finish in AA with a 2nd place.Biggest regret? This question took me a long time to answer. I honestly can't say that I have any regrets. I have enjoyed every thing that I have gone through in my life. What do you do in your free time? I love to play with my daughter, Kaylin and my wife Leigh. :)Best thing to ever happen to you? I met my wife Leigh which in turn gave me the greatest gift possible in my daughter.Biggest win? I would say winning the A-Open championship was huge for me. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be an A rider let alone win an A championship.Biggest wreck? Biggest wreck was when I was 13 Yrs old. I was racing at Bithlo MX and I cross rutted on a muddy, rutted jump. This high sided me straight to the floor tearing my meniscus in my knee.After a day of racing what is your preference? Tent, camper, motor home, hotel, drive the extra hours and be in your own bed.I pack up and head home to sleep in my own bed and spend some time with my wife and daughter. :) Favorite bike? Kawasaki KX450FIf you could invent one thing to improve the sport what would it be? I would invent something that gets rid of arm pump!!!!!!! I hate arm pump!!! lolWhat is your hype song? I don't really have one but if I were get one, it would be "Going in for the Kill" by Skrillex.What do you do before every race every time? I ride my mountain bike for about 10 mins, take an aspirin, stretch and try to focus on the race.Advice for young riders? Never give up on your dreams. All it takes is hard work and dedication to fulfill them. Always keep family 1st!How do you stay focused during the race? While I'm racing I focus by remembering what my goals are for that race and trying to achieve them. How do you stay fit mentally and physically? Mentally I talk to myself during a race. I reassure myself constantly that I have the potential to run up front and do well. The mental aspect of racing is very difficult to master. I often find myself daydreaming about nonsense. That's when I yell at myself to focus on lines and execution. Physically I have started a new a new routine that involves a mix of mountain biking, riding the bike and upper body workouts. Since I've started this routine I have noticed huge improvements. Do you train every day? Out of the 7 days a week I train 5-6 days. To ride competitively in the AA class this is what is needed. During my "A" class days, I would only workout 2-3 days a week but everyone is so strong in AA, you have to focus on training a lot more.Trophy girl or girl who will wash your bike? If I can train the girl to wash my bike properly, I'll definitely take the wash girl although I'm sure my wife will have something to say about it. lolOne thing people don't know about you? Besides riding dirt bikes professionally and getting paid for it, I believe I have the best job in the world. I work in a Military Weapons Defense Simulation Company. We basically build weapons with the same recoil as the real weapon for militaries around the world to train with without having to utilize and waste ammunition.If you could go back in time and do one thing what would it be? I think I would have tried to convince my Dad to let me start racing at a much earlier age. I started racing FTR full seasons at about the age of 22.Famous person you would like to eat lunch with? Chad Reed or Ryan DungeyFavorite food? LasagnaYumm!!!Favorite Movie? The Hulk part 1 and 2. Pet peeve on the track? Cheating! Gerrrrr.Pet peeve off the track? Cocky riders.Do you think races should be called when the heat index in too high? Negative ghost rider. We willingly signup for races. If you do not believe that you are in good enough shape to race, you shouldn't.If you get a bad start how do you keep your composure? I tell myself that it's a long race and I know that my fitness is there due to my training.Favorite thing you look forward to when you come back to the pits? A large crowd cheering for you is a huge motivational tool for me.Your preference MX SX HS Enduro? HARE SCRAMBLE FOR SURE!Plans for the future? I really want to win a few AA races this year and if I can continue to keep placing in top 3, I know that I have a chance to win the championship.Next goal? Win AA ChampionshipPets and their names? I have a dog named Baker. He is an Australian shepherd Something people dont know or would be surprised to know about you? I was born in Puerto Rico and lived their for about 3 yrs. I have a deaf brother which is the reason we moved to Florida to put him in a school for the deaf and blind in St. Augustine Florida. One thing you would like to thank TF for? There are a large number of things I would like to thank TF for but overall I thank them for their dedication and perseverance to continue to help their riders be as fast and safe as possible through their amazing suspension modifications.You are the podium who would you like to thank? How long have you been with TF Racing? 8 Years At the age of three I began in a rider development program racing BMXWhen was your first race, where was it and how did it go? It was in Lake Okeechobee. I was on a PW50 and I pulled a wheelie off the start. Papa and Nane where there, along with Uncle Bill, Randy and Teresa Faul, Kevin and Laura Bartels, Randy and Jenny White and almost the entire SADRA club surrounding the track cheering me on. I finished 12th, which was mid pack.What got you into the sport? Its always been in my family. Starting with my Grandpa Tom Sr, then my Papa Tom Fleming Jr, my Uncle Jay and my Uncle Jesse.Favorite part of the sport? Everything! From working at the shop, loading for the races, being at the track with friends and family, riding (definitely), unloading, washing, and doing it all over again for the weekend.Least favorite part of the sport? The driving.If you weren't racing on the weekends you would be ______? Somewhere with Papa Tom.One goal you would love to accomplish on the track and off the track? On the track, make it to Loretta's and podium. Off the track, to gain knowledge from Papa Tom and help with the business.Biggest influence? That's easy, Papa Tom.Favorite MX rider? Ryan Dungey.Favorite track? I love racing so much that any track I'm on becomes my favorite.Your best race ever was in Lake Okeechobee. I got third overall in the morning race.Biggest regret? I am a little too little to have a lot of regrets, but there might be a race or two that I should of went for the pass.Biggest win? It is not really a big win, but I got first twice on a PW50 against KTM's at the Gatorback Hare Scrambles. Biggest wreck? Probley at Bartow. I slammed into a tree two years ago on a 65.Favorite bike? Any bike that has TF Racing stickers on it.Favorite gear? Now Thor, but I think I am racing Answer next year?If you could invent one thing to improve the sport what would it be? Something in the safety area, like to help with long term.. like an injury. Advice for young riders? Never give up.How do you stay focused during the race? I attack turn to turn and it doesn't let my brain wonder.How do you stay fit mentally and physically? Physically, I work out at the gym. Mentally, I just know when I'm on the race track to push as hard as you train.Do you train every day? No I used to train on the bike a lot but now I train off the bike, like the gym maybe three times a week. Trophy girl or girl who will wash your bike? I'm a little young for that, so check back in a couple of years.Pet peeve on the track? When people pour water over me at gas stops.Pet peeve off the track? When people make lots of noises when they eat.Do you think races should be called when the heat index in too high? No because racers should be hydrated and conditioned for dry weather.When you are in second how hard is it to stay focused on the win? Favorite thing you look forward to when you come back to the pits? Definitely to see my family.If you get a bad start how do you keep your composure?It is not hard because I think about the race and the guy in front of me,never focusing on the win. In Hare Scrambles I know the race is one and a half hours and anything can happen. In Motorcross I have a a hard time with, well I better not say, so it will be used against me, lets say it is still a learning process. Your preference MX SX HS Enduro? HS, MX, Never have done an Enduro but would love to. One thing people don't know about you? When I was born I was the biggest baby in the hospital and now I am the smallest in my class.What do you do in your free time? We race and we work at the shop so there is not a lot of free time, but when we do have free time I like to go to Disney. I love so many rides. My favorite is Mt. Everest at Animal Kingdom.Best thing to ever happen to you? To be blessed with a good support group.If you could go back in time and do one thing what would it be? I would go back and try to avoid wrecking in the canal at the Ona HS. It took thirty minutes to find my bike, it was completely under water. Marcus has been part of the TF family for almost all his life. It is only fitting that he be our first to profile!!How long have you been with TF Racing? 1980When was your first race, where was it and how did it go? At Desoto, XR75, 1979 -ish . I kept on falling it was whooped out so bad.What got you into the sport? It started with BMX until 1978 for Haps, I told my Dad I wanted to race motorcycles. My Uncle Tripoli raced with Tom, that was the start of it all. Favorite part of the sport? Just the feeling of riding it makes me happy.Least favorite part of the sport? Waiting on the start.If you weren't racing on the weekends you would be ______? Running, Cycling, Scuba, Boating..One goal you would love to accomplish on the track and off the track? No, if a rider is in good physical and mental shape & has proper nutrition then it is all part of the challenge.When you are in second how hard is it to stay focused on the win? Be calm, pick your lines and just do it.Favorite thing you look forward to when you come back to the pits? Ice cold beer at the finish.If you get a bad start how do you keep your composure?It's frustrating but with years of experience and being taught to keep your cool you can go get it done.
